is available as a download from www.academia.edu and is a short introduction to a study done by Aguauo and Calvert that looks at how women use mobile devices to represent themselves within social media and online.

Question raised : Do Social media and handheld devices enable us to represent ourselves as we want to be seen, rather than how ‘the media’ (I’m aware that’s a very general term!) want us, women, people to be shown.

As the title says it focuses on women, but we can’t lose sight that men face fictionalised images and expectations of representation but in a different way.  I don’t want the study to take on a wholly old school feminist riot, but we cannot ignore the historical importance of these movements and what they have enabled us to do, to be and to control.
